The Honest Boy

Hafiz lived with his grandfather in a small village by the river. Every morning, he helped Grandfather to sell bananas at the market. Grandfather often said, "A poor man who is honest is richer than a rich man who is not."

One rainy day, Hafiz found a leather purse on the road. Inside were many notes and a gold ring. His friend Salleh said, "Keep it! No one saw you." Hafiz's heart beat fast. He remembered his grandfather's words. Instead of going home, he walked to the headman's house and handed over the purse.

The next evening, an old trader came to the market, looking worried. He had lost the money for his daughter's wedding. The headman had sent him to the banana stall. When he saw Hafiz, he wept with joy. He wanted to give the boy a reward, but Hafiz shook his head and smiled. "I only did what my grandfather taught me," he said.
